Profile

Since 1998, Jennifer Lynn Thompson has dedicated her practice to defending people accused of serious felonies and misdemeanors in state and federal court and representing clients in cases involving divorce and child custody.

Ms. Thompson received her law degree cum laude with honors from the University of Tennessee in 1996 and was admitted to practice in the state that same year.

While in law school, Ms. Thompson was a member of the Tennessee Law Review, received certificates of Academic Excellence in Criminal Procedure and Commercial Law, was a quarter-finalist in the Moot Court Board Ray Jenkins Trial Competition, and was a member of the Student Bar Association; American Bar Association, law student division; Association of Trial Lawyers of America, student member; Phi Delta Phi and Phi Kappa Phi.

Before founding her own practice in 1998, Ms. Thompson was an associate at the law firm of Blackburn, Slobey, Freeman & Happell and served as a clerk to the Honorable Gary R. Wade of the Court of Criminal Appeals.  While in law school, Ms. Thompson worked as a research assistant to Law Professor John Sobieski.  Ms. Thompson also worked as a computer programmer for Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co. and as an adjunct instructor at Chattanooga State Technical Community College.

Ms. Thompson is a leader in the legal community, taking time to shape the legal policies, laws and statutes of both the state of Tennessee and the Nation.  In an effort to effect change to the betterment of all criminal defendants and the protection of everyone's constitutional rights, Ms. Thompson serves as the vice-chairman of the Defense Function Committee of the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section.  In addition, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  She is also serving as a co-chairman of the Continuing Legal Education committee for NACDL to plan and prepare upcoming educational seminars.  Ms. Thompson is currently one of the Middle Tennessee representatives to the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Board of Directors and has served as chairman of the Ethics Committee in the past.  She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Tennessee Association for Justice where she regularly attends their annual meetings.  She is a member of the American Association of Justice where she follows their printed materials.  Finally, on a local level, Ms. Thompson is a member of the Nashville Bar Association where she serves on the federal court committee and has assisted with various projects in the past.  She also attends bar functions when able.  She participates in local round table discussions and presentations with both the local federal defenders office and the TACDL group. 



Tennessee attorneys are only required to receive fifteen hours of continuing legal education each year.  Ms. Thompson regularly attends law meetings and conferences.  Dedicated to honing her skills and staying up to date on the latest advances in the law and litigation, Ms. Thompson has recently attended the following continuing legal education programs:
